addressed to him by myself as to whether it was desirable that I should continue my classes with the Students. Being under the impression that the Board of Examination had ceased exercising its functions, I addressed that inquiry to the Acting Colonial Secretary directly instead of sending it through yourself as hitherto I was wont to do.
I beg here to state for the information of the members of the Board of Examination that I, by the enclosed letter to the Acting Colonial Secretary, tendered my resignation as Director of Chinese Studies but offered to continue acting as a member of the Board of Examination, should His Excellency the Governor so desire.
